The Dozois Reservoir is one of the most impressive bodies of water in Quebec — and it is almost entirely yours to enjoy.
With a surface area of 325 km² and more than 4,000 km of shoreline, the Dozois is vast. What makes it truly unique is that Dorval Lodge is the only outfitter with access to this territory. There are three campgrounds on the reservoir, but no other outfitters. This means less fishing pressure, more quiet, and areas you may have entirely to yourself. After more than 20 years on this water, our team knows every bay, point and rocky structure where walleye hold — and we share that knowledge with our guests.
The fishing season on the Dozois runs from May 15 to September 15. This limited window, combined with having only one outfitter on the reservoir, helps maintain a healthy fish population year after year. Fishing here remains consistent throughout the season, offering reliable quality rather than short peak periods.
The reservoir is fed by several rivers and natural lakes, including the Ottawa River. This network creates a rich and diverse ecosystem that supports a strong and healthy fish population.
The Dozois is home to two species, each with its own characteristics and peak seasons.
Yellow walleye and black walleye — the signature species of the reservoir and the main reason most guests visit. Dozois walleye are abundant and of excellent size. Fishing is strong from the season opener in May, with another peak in August and September as water temperatures cool.
Northern pike — aggressive, plentiful and found throughout the reservoir. Dozois pike offer memorable fights, especially for those fishing with light tackle. Good-sized specimens are common
The reservoir is so large that you could fish here for a full week without covering the same area twice. That’s one of the great advantages of Dorval Lodge — the ability to explore.
Each morning, you can head out in a different direction. Follow the north shore toward quiet bays. Travel up a river toward a natural lake. Work the rocky points where walleye often hold. There is always a new area to discover.
Our team is here to guide you. Based on wind, water temperature and time of season, we direct you toward the most productive areas. No guesswork — just advice built on more than 20 years of experience on this reservoir.
The Dozois benefits from conditions that support excellent fishing. The reservoir is large enough to avoid heavy pressure. Water levels are managed by a dam, creating relatively stable conditions throughout the season. The variety of habitats — rocky bottoms, weed beds, river mouths and deeper zones — allows each species to thrive.
For anglers who want to go further, updated bathymetric maps are available at the lodge office. These maps help identify underwater structures, drop-offs and shoals where fish tend to concentrate.
